The Experience
The Karoo is a place that changes you. It is vast, unforgiving, and spectacularly beautiful. This 5-day expedition is for the adventure rider who wants to truly disconnect from the world and experience the profound emptiness of the South African interior.
We will spend 80% of our time on gravel, ranging from high-speed, wide-open farm roads to technical, rocky mountain passes. The CFMoto 450 MT shines out here, floating over the corrugations and powering up the loose ascents with ease.
Dust, sweat, and unforgettable sunsets are guaranteed.
Itinerary
Day 1 - Cape Town to Ceres Karoo
We leave the city early, tackling the Bain's Kloof pass before the tarmac ends and the vast plains of the Karoo open up before us.
Day 2 - The Tankwa Pad
A full day of high-speed gravel riding on the longest uninterrupted dirt road in South Africa. Tonight, we sleep under a canopy of a billion stars.
Day 3 - Ouberg Pass & Sutherland
A technical, steep, and rocky ascent up the infamous Ouberg Pass, bringing us to the freezing, telescope-studded heights of Sutherland.
Day 4 - Matjiesfontein to Route 62
We ride south through the historic, Victorian-era village of Matjiesfontein before carving through the Swartberg mountains.
Day 5 - Tradouw Pass & Return
Sweeping tarmac curves through the Tradouw Pass back to the coast, wrapping up our dusty adventure with a cold beer in Cape Town.
